A return to celebrating First Nations, Inuit and Métis culture will be held in Nanaimo next week.
According to a release issued by the Mid-Island Métis Nation association, a free community gathering for National Indigenous Peoples Day will be held at Maffeo Sutton Park on Tuesday, June 21, from 5-8 p.m.
Entertainment and teachings include the Mid-Island Métis Nation Fiddle Group, Snuneymuxw’s Footprints of the Wolf, a jigging class, Summer Sage and Ed Peekeekoot, noted the release.
Also returning this year will be a displayed teepee, Indigenous games and beading stations.
Vendors and food trucks such as Don’t Bannock, Tasty Street Food Truck, and Lickety Drippity will be on site.

The Indigenous Peoples Day celebration is made possible through the partnered efforts of the Mid-Island Métis Nation, Literacy Nanaimo, Strong Nations bookstore, Nanaimo Ladysmith Public Schools and other community partners.
