Nanaimo roads and highways will see a bit of a summer slowdown starting next week.
The City of Nanaimo released an update an upcoming road construction projects, including work on the old Island Highway and Hammond Bay Road.
"The city thanks residents and commuters for their patience and co-operation," said Steve Ricketts, the city's manager of construction, in a press release.
According to the city, Fortis B.C. started installation of a gas main on Highway 19A from Mostar Road to Aulds Road. Motorists can expect single-lane traffic southbound.
A new sidewalk will be built along Hammond Bay Road between Tom's Turnabout and Dunn Place. The project will begin next week and will include road repaving, necessitating alternating single-lane traffic.
Construction of Linley Valley Drive off of Turner Road starts in July and will include a new roundabout on Turner. The project will force single-lane alternate traffic and short-term road closures and motorists are encouraged to use Uplands Drive as an alternate route.
Other projects include improvements to Neck Point Park's main vehicle entrance, and water main work on Harwell Road.
