Nanaimo teacher takes on provincial role

Nanaimo teacher elected to BCTF 11-person executive committee.

A Nanaimo teacher will represent teachers provincewide.

Mike Ball, a member of the Nanaimo District Teachers’ Association executive, was elected a member-at-large on the B.C. Teachers’ Federation’s 11-person executive committee during the union’s annual general meeting this week.

Kip Wood, NDTA second vice-president, who was a BCTF member-at-large for the past two years, decided not to run again and steps down from this position at the end of the school year.

Derek DeGear, president of the Nanaimo District Teachers’ Association, said Ball is the only executive member from the Island.

“We’re so happy to continue having that Island voice on the provincial table,” he said. “You’re always confident that you’ve got the ear of the provincial executive.”

Burnaby teacher Susan Lambert was re-elected for a third one-year term as BCTF president.
