A Victoria college is looking for a Nanaimo student who wants to become a medical lab assistant.
Camosun College has reserved one seat in its medical laboratory assistant program for a Nanaimo-area student. The program, which starts in September, runs until April and takes place two evenings per week and most Saturdays.
Students are matched with a local hospital and community placement to build their practical skills one day per month throughout the program and full-time for four weeks between April and May.
Students learn how to collect specimens from patients, how to process and prepare them for analysis, and how to perform electrocardiograms and basic lab procedures. Data entry, clerical duties and reception services are also part of the program.
