Nanaimo storefront smashed for framed Canucks Jersey

Artfitterz Custom Frame Shop and Fine Art Gallery was targeted by thieves suffering from Canucks fever.

Artfitterz Custom Frame Shop and Fine Art Gallery was targeted by thieves suffering from Canucks fever.

Police said shortly after 4 a.m. Wednesday, a dark coloured Jeep was driven through the front window of the business, at 15-1925 Bowen Rd.

“The only item taken was a framed, autographed Kirk McLean Canucks jersey valued at $450,” said Const. Gary O’Brien, Nanaimo RCMP spokesman.

James Hoar, store owner, said stock around the jersey was unharmed, but the former Canucks goaltender’s jersey was likely damaged by the shattered glass that would have fallen on it.

“The way it fell, it fell right on the jersey,” Hoar said. “So it’s probably not in any condition right now to even be worn.”

Anyone with information is asked to call Nanaimo RCMP at 250-754-2345, Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or online at www.nanaimocrimestoppers.com.
