Nanaimo school district is moving forward with $3.6-million in technology upgrades.
School officials recently endorsed the recommendations contained in a review of the district’s technology use.
The review, conducted by IBM K-12 consultants last spring, includes a number of recommendations to improve service, access for students and use technology more efficiently and identifies upgrades that will cost $3.6 million over five years.
After receiving the report last spring, trustees asked for a staff response, which was presented at Wednesday’s board meeting.
A staff report recommends addressing all of the priorities outlined in the IBM report starting in the 2011/12 fiscal year.
Steve Sproston, information systems manager, told trustees that the department has begun upgrading the district’s core infrastructure, using funds within the budget.
He recommends that further planning be undertaken by the information systems department and the Educational Technology Advisory Group to develop a five-year plan that covers the remaining priorities.
