Nanaimo school board examines value of trustee association membership

NANAIMO – Trustees asked for information on value of belonging to B.C. School Trustees Association.

A Nanaimo school district committee will look into the value of the district’s membership with the B.C. School Trustees Association.

The association provides support to B.C. school boards and the topic was broached at the district June 10 business committee meeting. Trustee Jamie Brennan recommended the board refer it to the meetings format committee, which is comprised of trustees and staff.

According to Dale Burgos, school district spokesman, the committee will discuss, research and do what’s necessary to bring information back to the board.

The district pays $50,000 in annual membership dues and Stephanie Higginson, school board vice-chairwoman, sits on the association board as a director.
