A Lower Mainland man will serve a community sentence for robbing a fast food joint on Bowen Road last spring.

Lucas Smith pleaded guilty to robbery this week and received a conditional sentence of two years less a day, two years probation, a 10-year firearms prohibition and he must submit a DNA sample.

The robbery happened April 26 when a man, armed with a handgun, walked into the Domino's Pizza on Bowen Road and demanded cash from the employees.

He was handed an undisclosed amount before he fled in a grey truck. Employees gave police a description of the truck and its licence plate number and moments later police were called about a truck matching this description being driven erratically on the Nanaimo Parkway.

Mounties pulled the truck over near Northfield Road and shut down the highway for about five minutes while they arrested Smith.

Police found a realistic imitation handgun during the arrest.
