Nanaimo RCMP seek two suspects in relation to a theft from a north Nanaimo jewelry store.

According to police, the incident happened Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. when two men entered the store and asked the lone clerk on duty to see numerous jewelry pieces from the display case.

In a press release, Const. Gary O’Brien, Nanaimo RCMP spokesman, said one of the suspects pocketed the bracelet while the clerk was distracted. The theft was not discovered until after the two left the store.

“The suspects were of Eastern European descent and had strong accents,” O’Brien said in the release. “Both were dressed all in black and one wore a traditional Russian fur hat with flaps that fold down. One suspect was approximately 60 years old and the other in his 30s and they said they were father and son.”

Police later confirmed the two suspects had visited several other Nanaimo jewelry outlets that day.

If you have information about the crime, or the identity of the two, please call the Nanaimo RCMP non-emergency line at 250-754-2345.
