Two suspects in a series of smash-and-grab robberies have been charged with multiple property offences.
Dawn Harry, 36, of Campbell River, and David Lawson, 38, of Nanaimo, appeared in provincial court in Nanaimo on Thursday. Harry, who faces more than 20 charges related to property offences, was released on a series of bail conditions and will appear in court in Nanaimo on Jan. 24. Lawson, who faces 16 property crime-related charges, was held in custody until his next court appearance on Jan. 10.
According to Nanaimo RCMP, a rash of business smash-and-grabs occurred in the Nanaimo area between Nov. 20 and Dec. 13. Investigators with the Nanaimo RCMP Street Crimes Unit assumed responsibility for the investigations and were able to identify the suspects in these crimes.
The hard work and persistence of the investigators led to the arrest of the suspects, preventing further property offences being committed over the holiday season, according to Sgt. Sheryl Armstrong, Nanaimo RCMP spokeswoman.
