Nanaimo police searching for suspect in gas station robbery

NANAIMO – Police need the public's help after a Chevron gas station was robbed over the weekend.

The Nanaimo RCMP is investigating a robbery of a gas station in the north end over the weekend. According to police, at approximately 3:10 a.m. on Sunday, an unidentified male entered the Chevron gas station located in the Woodgrove Centre parking lot and stole an unknown amount of cash and cigarettes. The gas station attendant stepped out of the store for a cigarette when he was confronted by a male, who had approached him from behind. Police believe the male then held something to the back of the attendant and told him to go inside and take money from the station's safe.

Since the safe was on a timer, the suspect hid in the store while the attendant served a number of customers. The suspect had also threatened the attendant with violence if he told any of the customers in the store. After the customers left, the suspected male took an undisclosed amount money from the safe and then broke into the cigarette dispenser with tools, which he had with him.

The suspect is described as a Caucasian male, approximately 5-foot-7. He was wearing a blue mask, blue jeans, black dressy coat, work boots and gloves.
