Nanaimo RCMP hope public can identify a man suspected of stealing smartphones in Woodgrove Centre.

Nanaimo police hope the public can identify a man suspected of shoplifting a smartphone.

The man, depicted in a photo released by Nanaimo RCMP, allegedly stole a Samsung S4 phone worth about $700 from Best Buy Mobile in Woodgrove Centre Sunday at about 11 a.m.

Later the same day the same suspect walked into Bell Mobility, also in the Woodgrove Centre, and tried to take another phone. The clerk recognized him as the same person who allegedly stole a phone from the store in April and managed to take a photo of the man before he left empty handed.

The suspect is thought to be of First Nations descent, tall and slim, in his early 20s and has short dark hair.

Anyone with information about this person is asked to contact Const. Brett Squire of the Nanaimo RCMP at 250-754-2345 or contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or online at www.nanaimocrimestoppers.com.
