NANAIMO – Police search on Pine Street nets assault rifles, stolen property, cash, drugs and a suspect.

A search by Nanaimo RCMP's Street Crimes Unit on Tuesday turned up multiple suspected stolen items from a shed located in the 200 block of Pine Street, plus cash, drugs and Russian military training rifles.

Among the inventory of seized items were Soviet SKS Tula semi-automatic assault rifles, a scooter valued at $3,000, numerous bikes worth close to $15,000, plus various quantities of heroin, marijuana, cocaine and crystal methamphetamine.

Investigators are in the process of contacting the owners of the property.

Police also arrested Christopher Durkin, 43, of Nanaimo, who appeared in Nanaimo Provincial Court Thursday to face charges of possession of stolen property, plus weapon- and drug-related charges.
