New Year’s Eve parties are a no-go this year, but a fireworks celebration can go ahead the next day.

The Nanaimo NightOwls baseball team, in partnership with Kw’umut Lelum Foundation and various sponsors, is putting on a fireworks display on Saturday, Jan. 1, at 6 p.m. at the Serauxmen Sports Fields between Second and Third streets. Parking will be restricted and the team is asking members of the public to park elsewhere in the area.

The NightOwls are holding a ‘Stuff the RV’ food drive at the ball fields during the daytime on Jan. 1 before the fireworks. Food donations for Loaves and Fishes Community Food Bank will be encouraged from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. that day.

The NightOwls are getting ready for their inaugural West Coast League baseball season in 2022.
