Nanaimo RCMP are conducting an investigation into the death of a six-week old baby boy.

Nanaimo RCMP are conducting an investigation into the death of a six-week old baby boy.

A press release issued Wednesday morning indicates officers were called to a Nanaimo home early Sunday for a report of an unresponsive child. Officers along with B.C. Ambulance crews attended, but were unable to revive the six-week old infant.

Nanaimo Serious Crime Unit members are investigating the death and are being assisted by the B.C. Coroners Service.

"This investigation is in its early stages .We are also sensitive to the fact a child has died and therefore no further information will be released at this time,” said Constable Gary O’Brien, Nanaimo RCMP spokesman in a press release.
