Learn about the latest crime trends and ways to battle criminal activity at a public presentation to be hosted by Nanaimo RCMP.
Officers with the Nanaimo RCMP street crew, Crime Prevention Unit and Knowledge Management will be on hand to discuss central Nanaimo's current crime trends and hear from neighbourhood residents how they are being impacted.
Ryland Wellwood, Nanaimo RCMP crime analyst, will demonstrate the city's new interactive mapping system and Sgt. Donovan Tait will speak on property and drug issues in central Nanaimo.
Const. Gary O’Brien, Nanaimo RCMP spokesman and Block Watch co-ordinator, will moderate the session and discuss how Block Watch and other neighbourhood crime prevention initiatives can significantly reduce crime.
The meeting happens Thursday (March 27), 7 p.m. at the Nanaimo Alliance Church, 1609 Meredith Rd.
“Currently there are four active Block Watches in central Nanaimo and many participants will be in attendance," O'Brien said. "This meeting is an excellent opportunity to hear about more policing initiatives in Nanaimo and to possibly kick start a Block Watch in your neighborhood."
