Victoria Police have concluded two Nanaimo RCMP members accused of assault will not face charges.
The alleged assault happened at a home in the 1000-block of Cedar Road where police were sent to deal with a man who was distraught and possibly suicidal. An altercation broke out between the officers and the two residents, a woman, 53, and a man, 20, who were arrested at the time of the incident.
Police have not revealed details about the assault or the nature and extent of any alleged injuries.
Nanaimo RCMP requested an independent criminal review of the incident on March 8th. Four Victoria Police Department officers were assigned to the investigation.
The Victoria Police Department investigation, in consultation with Crown counsel, determined that the Nanaimo RCMP officers were in the lawful execution of their duty and no charges will be laid against them nor are any charges being recommended against the man and woman who were involved in the incident and arrested in the home.
