Warrants have been issued for a man facing charges of assault and mischief after throwing merchandise at a convenience store clerk last year.

RCMP are asking for the public’s help in locating 39-year-old Ovidiu Bezdan of Nanaimo, who failed to appear in provincial court in Nanaimo.

The allegations against Bezdan stem from an incident in September of 2019 at the Circle K convenience on Departure Bay Road, a press release noted. At about 10:30 p.m., Bezdan entered the business and tried to fill a reusable cup. He appeared to be having some difficulty so the clerk went over to assist. It is then alleged that Bezden, without provocation, grabbed merchandise off the shelves and began throwing it at the clerk and throughout the store. As he was leaving he picked up a container of washer fluid and threw it at the front window.

Bezdan fled on foot, but was found a short time later with the assistance of a police dog.

Bezdan is a Caucasian, 5-foot-6, 150 pounds with short black hair, green eyes and some facial hair. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call the Nanaimo RCMP non-emergency line at 250-754-2345 and quote file No. 2019-38423.
