Nanaimo man, known to wander Vancouver Island, considered missing

Nanaimo RCMP ask for help finding 48-year-old

Family members of a Nanaimo man experiencing homelessness, known to wander southern Vancouver Island, are concerned for his well-being and hope he can be found safe and sound.

In a press release, Nanaimo RCMP is asking the public to help locate Aaron Akey, 48, of Nanaimo. Akey stands 5-foot-7, weighs 146 pounds and has short dark brown hair, with a beard and blue eyes.

“We know that at this time of year many people are out on the trails and camping in remote areas around the Island,” said Const. Sherri Wade, Nanaimo RCMP spokesperson, in the press release. “If you see anyone matching Mr. Akey’s description, please call.”

Anyone with information on the missing man’s whereabouts is asked to call Nanaimo RCMP’s non-emergency line at 250-754-2345.
