Nanaimo man arrested for Surrey murder

NANAIMO – Police make weekend arrest of Nanaimo man suspected of committing murder in Surrey.

A man from Nanaimo was arrested on the weekend for a the death of a man in Surrey.

Dustin Barry Anderson, 42, was arrested in Nanaimo Saturday by members of the Surrey-based RCMP Integrated Homicide Investigation Team and Nanaimo RCMP.

Anderson is accused of killing Shaunce Poirier, 33, of Surrey.

Poirier was found suffering from life-threatening injuries on the corner of 132nd Street and 108th Avenue in Surrey shortly after 2 p.m. June 16. Poirier died later that day.

Police have not commented on the circumstances leading to Poirier’s death or what caused the fatal injury, but did say Poirier and Anderson are known to police and that the death was not the result of a random act.

“We are continuing our investigation into this murder and at this point our investigators have determined that this was not a random act. There are no further details available to the public at this time,” said Sergeant Bari Emam, Integrated Homicide Investigative Team spokesman, in a June 16 press release.

Anderson will appear in Surrey provincial court today (June 24) to face one count of second-degree murder. Investigators had not released further information about the investigation by press time.
