A Nanaimo man was arrested after shots were fired on the weekend.

According to Nanaimo RCMP, police responded at about 11:45 a.m. Sunday after a resident on Centre Street, in south Nanaimo, heard gunshots and called 911.

According to police, investigators learned there had been an earlier altercation between several men which appeared to have been resolved until one man went to his home. Several shots rang out from moments later.

The suspect fled, but was taken into custody later in the day when he turned himself in at the Nanaimo RCMP detachment.

William Michael Vautour, 30, has been charged with six firearms and weapons offences and has been held in custody to appear in Nanaimo provincial court Thursday (Jan. 5).

Police searched the home and seized five firearms and various other weapons.

No one was injured by the fired rounds.
