With B.C. government restrictions for COVID-19 being relaxed, library branches in Nanaimo are slowly beginning to allow patrons to borrow books.
According to a Vancouver Island Regional Library social media post, Nanaimo Harbourfront library branch is open for takeout service Tuesdays from 2-4 p.m. and 5-7 p.m. and from Wednesdays to Saturdays between 10 a.m.-noon and 2-4 p.m. The branch is closed Sundays and Mondays.
Nanaimo North branch will open for takeout service Saturday, June 13 with the same hours as Harbourfront branch.
Nanaimo Wellington branch has completed a risk assessment and hours will be announced soon.
According to a press release, customers will be able to place holds via the online catalogue and library staff will collect materials and connect with the customer to set up a pickup time. The procedure is designed to minimize physical contact and ensure social distance and safety protocols are followed, the library said.

All materials will be quarantined for 72 hours upon return, said the library.
Vancouver Island Regional Library branches have been closed since March 16 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
