The creator of the Lights of Hope campaign at St. Paul’s Hospital in Vancouver has been named new chief executive officer of Nanaimo and District Hospital Foundation.

Barney Ellis-Perry will take over for Janice Perrino as the charitable organization’s CEO on Aug. 2, following a search that spanned the continent. Born and raised in Vancouver, Ellis-Perry has more than 30 years of experience in fundraising, including with St. Paul’s Hospital Foundation where he created and executed the Christmas lights fundraiser, stated a press release.

Most recently, Ellis-Perry served as Vanderbilt University’s associate vice-chancellor for alumni relations and annual giving, a role in which he led a team of 40 with yearly fundraising targets of $17 million and engaging with more than 24,000 alumni, the press release noted.

His resumé also includes 14 years with the University of B.C. with a number of notable fundraising and alumni positions, including director of the alumni engagement campaign and director of alumni relations. He co-led UBC’s Start an Evolution campaign with goals of raising $1.5 billion and doubling alumni engagement.

Nanaimo and District Hospital Foundation noted in the press release that it is delighted to have Ellis-Perry on the team.

“His myriad professional accomplishments and leadership experience will be a valuable asset to us and, given we are in the strongest financial shape of our 30-year history, future campaigns can be undertaken with confidence,” said Tony Harris, hospital foundation board chairperson.

Perrino retired at the end of June, “after six years of outstanding leadership,” the press release said.
