Nanaimo Fire Rescue crews extinguished a fire in south Nanaimo this morning.

The report of a structure fire came in about 9:50 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 25 in the 700 block of Victoria Road, near Needham Street, and appears to have started at the front of a house, according to Brad Wood, Nanaimo Fire Rescue assistant chief.

“It was confined to the porch area,” said Wood. “The origin of the fire at this time is unknown, but our [inspectors] are working on that.”

The house has occupants and Wood said the investigation is ongoing.
