Nanaimo cyclist injured in suspected hit and run

NANAIMO - Police looking for witnesses to suspected hit and run on weekend that seriously injured cyclist.

Nanaimo RCMP are looking for witnesses to a suspected hit and run collision between a cyclist and a motor vehicle.

The incident happened Saturday morning, sometime before 3 a.m. when two pedestrians came upon the 53 year old injured man and his bike near Doric Avenue and Bowen Road and called 911.

The victim was unable to tell paramedics or RCMP what caused the accident and he was taken to Nanaimo Regional General Hospital.

Officers examined the scene and his damaged bicycle and determined the accident might have been caused by a motor vehicle striking the rear of the bicycle.

On Wednesday the cyclist was still hospital being treated for a fractured scapula and various lacerations. He has little recall of the accident and has been unable to assist with the investigation.
