A Nanaimo crib player was dealt a hand worth hooting and hollering about.
Kate Alton, who has been playing crib for more than 50 years, “finally hit the big one,” scoring a perfect 29, said her playing partner Teresa Lingstrom.
The two were enjoying a casual evening of playing crib when Alton cut a five of clubs and made an exclamation.
“What, you have 29 or something?” asked Lingstrom, to which Alton yelled, “yes!” and revealed three fives and a jack of clubs.
“Wow,” said Lingstrom in correspondence to the News Bulletin this week. “The odds of getting 29, the best hand in cribbage, is one in 216,580. Was it luck? If you asked Kate, she’d say it was skill.”
Alton and other crib players gather for drop-in games every Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 10 Harewood. Everyone is welcome; legion membership is not necessary.
