NANAIMO – Bill Bestwick provided notice of motion for an investigation into the lead up to the Leadercast cancellation.

A Nanaimo city councillor is calling for an investigation into the cancellation of a live leadership simulcast.

Coun. Bill Bestwick plans to seek an inquiry into the lead up of the cancellation of Leadercast, a live simulcast event slated for last May. The notice of motion was given at a city council meeting Monday by Coun. Bill McKay on his colleague’s behalf.

According to the motion, Bestwick will ask Nanaimo city council to consider a task force or independent investigator for the probe, as well as  require the cooperation of city staff, event sponsors and the operator of the Vancouver Island Conference Centre.

The motion is slated for the next city council meeting on Aug. 11.
