NANAIMO – Taxes expected to be 1.5 per cent, but council can still make changes leading up to May.

Nanaimo city council adopted its five-year financial plan last week.

The plan, considered provisional, is expected to see the tax rate driven up by 1.5 per cent this year.

Council has until May 15 to make changes to its budget.

This year residents will also see a five-per cent increase in sewer user fees, a 7.5-per cent hike for water and a two-per cent increase in user fees for solid waste collection.
