A Nanaimo RCMP community policing volunteer got to practice what she was preaching last Wednesday and is credited with locating a stolen car.
The volunteer was handing out Lockout Auto Crime brochures at the Nanaimo Aquatic Centre parking lot when she discovered a stolen 2003 Chrysler Sebring.
According to police, the vehicle had front-end damage and licence plates that weren’t of British Columbian origin. One of the tires had been taken off and rested under the vehicle.
She called the local police detachment and provided a description and licence number and it was revealed that the car had been stolen from Victoria on July 25. Officers were sent to the scene but no arrests were made and the car was towed to an impound lot.
“We are fortunate to have a very active volunteer program at the Nanaimo detachment,” said Dawn Portman, Nanaimo RCMP community policing coordinator, in a press release. “Our volunteers are community-minded people who are excited to be able to give back to the community and assist the RCMP in preventing crime.”
