Nanaimo city council signs off on tax increase

NANAIMO – Taxpayers will see a one-per cent tax hike this year.

It’s official – Nanaimo taxpayers will see a one-per cent tax hike.

Nanaimo city council adopted its financial plan and property tax rates bylaw on Monday, which will see taxes inch up one per cent this year.

“After much discussion, I am pleased that we were able to hold the line and arrive at a final figure that, at one-per cent, is the smallest increase Nanaimo ratepayers have seen in years and, quite likely, one of the smallest in B.C. this year,” said Mayor Bill McKay.

Property tax notices will be mailed after Victoria Day weekend.
