Two upcoming all-candidates meetings will showcase party and candidate platforms.

The Nanaimo District Teachers’ Association is sponsoring an all-candidates meeting Tuesday (April 18) at Dover Bay Secondary School, inviting candidates from all three local ridings – Nanaimo, Nanaimo-North Cowichan and Parksville-Qualicum.

An event moderator will ask questions with timed responses, and questions will be taken from the floor. The public is welcome and encouraged to attend the meeting, which will be held in the school’s multipurpose room from 6:30-8:30 p.m.

A week later, an all-candidates debate and independent forum, hosted by the Greater Nanaimo Chamber of Commerce, happens at Beban Park social centre on April 25.

Candidates Leonard Krog, Nanaimo MLA, B.C. NDP incumbent; Paris Gaudet, B.C. Liberal Party; and Kathleen Harris, B.C. Green Party, will participate in the event that includes candidate information booths, open from 6 p.m. until the debate starts at 7 p.m.

The debate will be moderated by Carrie Chassels, Vancouver Island University’s appointee to the chamber. Scrutineers will screen questions for the candidates.
