Linley Valley Park just got a little larger.
The City of Nanaimo announced it plans to grow Linley Valley park by another 2.4 hectares as part of a new option agreement.
The municipality already agreed to spend $7.6 million to acquire and develop 89 hectares of green space in Linley Valley West, creating what would be Nanaimo’s largest urban park.
Now it’s entered into an agreement with the owner of 3650 Cottleview Dr. that will see the city get another 2.4 hectares for a dollar before the end of the year in exchange for facilitating two 600 square-metre lots on the same street.
The survey and development cost charge fees associated with the lots would cost the city $40,000.
“This additional parcel of land was identified in our initial acquisition program and we are pleased to announce it publicly as part of the wider package,” said Mayor John Ruttan.
