Mounties report three holiday arrests

NANAIMO – Breaking and entering and stolen vehicle land three in custody.

A 40-year-old man from Surrey was arrested Tuesday in a 2008 Suzuki stolen in Nanaimo.

The suspect was arrested while stopped for a red light at the Comox Road and Wallace Street intersection.

Police recommended charges of possession of stolen property, prohibited driving and breach of release conditions stemming from previous charges against the suspect who was scheduled to appear in Nanaimo provincial court Wednesday.

Mounties arrested another suspect Tuesday after an alarm was triggered in a truck on Pine Street at about 10:30 p.m.

The 33-year-old suspect was picked up a short time later on Second Street with a cellphone allegedly belonging to the owner of the truck.

He was released on a promise to appear in Nanaimo provincial court Feb. 24 for theft under $5,000.

In another incident, Jason Klughart, 23, of Nanaimo, appeared in Nanaimo provincial court Wednesday to face charges for breaking and entering, resisting a peace officer and escape from lawful custody.

Klughart was arrested early Wednesday after allegedly trying to break into a home on Watkin Street. He also fled from police during the arrest attempt and had to be tracked down by a police service dog.
