Ladysmith RCMP and RCMP Forensic Identification Services are investigating the sudden death of a man in North Oyster.

Police became involved after a neighbour discovered a man dead in his home at the corner of Wagon Wheel Trail and Yellow Point Road shortly before 11:30 a.m. Thursday ,said Cpl. Darren Lagan, Island District RCMP spokesman in a press release.

Police have identified the deceased as Kenneth Benjamin Hein, 76, of North Oyster.

A preliminary investigation by Ladysmith RCMP turned up some suspicious aspects to Hein’s death, which prompted them to bring in the Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit, which arrived at the residence Thursday afternoon.

Forensic investigators and Ladysmith RCMP were still at Hein’s residence Friday afternoon conducting their examination.

The B.C. Coroner Service is also working with investigators to confirm a cause and time of death.

Hein’s family have been notified of his death and the ongoing investigation.

Police were not releasing further details as of Friday afternoon.
