A motorcycle rider suffered serious injuries after an accident in Nanaimo’s north end Thursday night.

According to a Nanaimo RCMP press release, the “serious collision” occurred on Island Highway, near Turner Road, at approximately 11 p.m. July 23 when a vehicle heading north was rear-ended by a motorcycle.

“The motorcycle lost control, and sparked a collision with a second north-bound motorcycle,” the press release said. “The driver of the first motorcycle suffered serious injuries, and was taken to hospital.”

The highway was closed for several hours as collision analysts conducted an investigation and the highway was opened for traffic just before the morning commute, the press release said.

The investigation is ongoing and it may take time to determine details leading up to the collision and any contributing factors, said police.
