Motorcyclist in hospital after Bowen Road crash

NANAIMO – Motorcyclist airlifted to Vancouver General Hospital following collision with SUV on Saturday.

Police hope to speak with anyone who might have witnessed a crash between a motorcycle and an SUV on the weekend that has left a motorcyclist fighting for his life in Vancouver General Hospital.

The accident happened at about 7 p.m. Saturday when a Ducati motorcycle, driven southbound on Bowen Road by a 32-year-old Nanaimo man, hit a Ford Edge, driven by a 28-year-old woman from Qualicum Beach, which was pulling out of Bowen Centre at 1925 Bowen Rd.

The impact left both vehicles engulfed in flames.

The motorcyclist was rushed to Nanaimo Regional General Hospital with multiple life-threatening injuries. He underwent emergency surgery in Nanaimo and was airlifted to Vancouver Sunday.

The SUV driver and her passenger were also taken to hospital with minor injuries and released later in the evening.

Nanaimo Municipal Traffic Services and a traffic analyst are continuing their investigation and trying to determine if speed played a role in the crash. Police have ruled out alcohol as a causal factor.

Anyone who witnessed this accident or has information about it, please call Const. Wayne Vaughan at 250-754-2345.
