All aboard for this year’s Nanaimo Model Train Show.

The annual event is returning Sunday, May 1, to its preferred venue inside the Beban Park social centre.

“We’ve got a record number of tables and every single table’s full,” said Chris Sundstrom, one of the event organizers.

A comparatively smaller outdoor show was held last summer, but now that people are becoming more comfortable about gathering, organizers are hoping for a good turnout for this year’s event.

There will be private and commercial vendors from up and down the Island and the Lower Mainland, Sundstrom said. The Saanich Historical Artifacts Society is planning to display some larger ride-on-scale railway cars, and some of the other exhibitors include the B.C. Forest Discovery Centre, the B.C. Railway Historical Association, the National Model Railroad Association and the Mid-Island Lego Users Group.

“We’ve got another layout which is deliberately set up for children to have an opportunity to operate, plus we’ve got a bunch more detail-oriented layouts that are on show,” Sundstrom said.
