Military police investigating Nanoose Bay crash

Single-vehicle accident at CFMETR sends one to hospital

A single-vehicle accident in Nanoose Bay at the Canadian Forces base is under investigation by military police.

According to Lt. Navy Melissa Kia, a spokesperson with Maritime Forces Pacific, “the Canadian Armed Forces confirmed that there was a single-vehicle accident at CFMETR (Canadian Forces Maritime Experimental and Test Ranges) in Nanoose Bay on Aug. 15

“Following the incident, the motorist in question was airlifted to hospital in Victoria where they were transferred into the care of emergency health services.”

Kia said no information on the motorist or their condition could be released. That includes the type of vehicle the person was driving.

However, other news reports have said the vehicle involved was a motorcylce, and that the motorcyclist is a civilian employee of the Department of National Defence.

Kia said she could not confirm this.

She added, “at the moment, the incident is currently under investigation by military police. As well, since the incident is under investigation, it would be inappropriate to speculate as to the cause.”

Kia said she could not confirm the time of the crash.
