Mental health, substance use walk-in service to be only offered at one Nanaimo location

Assessments, counselling and referrals will happen only at Brooks Landing starting next week

Walk-in service for mental health and substance use patients in Nanaimo will only be offered in one location starting next week, according to Island Health.

Single-session mental health and substance-use assessments, counselling and referrals are currently taking place at sites on Barons Road and Brooks Landing, the health authority said in a press release, but beginning Wednesday, March 15, the Brooks Landing site, at 203-2000 Island Highway, will be the only location.

Service will be available Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., according to the press release, and “will create consistent walk-in hours for … services and improve overall access to the continuum of services to help more people access the care they need.”
