Kasari Govender, executive director of West Coast Women’s Legal and Education Fund, will give a first-hand account of a court hearing into polygamy.
The public meeting, organized by the Canadian Federation of University Women, will talk about the B.C. Supreme Court case, which examined the fundamentalist Mormon sect in Bountiful, B.C.
Whether Canada decriminalizes polygamy, or strengthens its long-standing ban on multiple marriage, is expected to go to the Supreme Court of Canada.
Govender will speak on Oct. 24, 7 p.m., at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, 4225 Departure Bay Rd.
