Manly released from Israel

Nanaimo's Jim Manly is back on Canadian soil after being detained for three days by Israeli officials.

Manly, 79, a former two-term Island Member of Parliament, was aboard the Finnish-registered Estelle Saturday when it was boarded by Israeli defence patrols. At least 17 crew members of the Estelle, which included MPs from Spain, Norway, Sweden and Greece, were attempting to pass through a legal Israeli blockade to deliver aid supplies to Palestinians in Gaza.

Manly arrived in Toronto Wednesday morning and is expected to return home to Nanaimo today (Oct. 25).
