A Parksville motorcycle shop employee helped to take down a man in Lantzville after the man stole a bike Tuesday (July 24).

A 35-year-old male was in court in Nanaimo July 25, facing charges of stealing a motorcycle from a shop in Parksville July 24.

The incident occurred in Parksville around 12:30 p.m. when the man “fled on a brown Honda CB 750” and two employees from the motorcycle shop gave chase.

“The motorcycle travelled on the shoulder of the wrong side of Highway 19 towards Nanaimo,” reads an RCMP release.

One of the two employees caught up with the suspect on Superior Road near Lantzville, “and confronted the male who refused to give up the bike.”

According to RCMP, the employee pushed the motorcycle over to prevent the suspect from taking off again. By the time police arrived, the employee had the man pinned to the ground.

“While police do not endorse the public putting themselves at risk, we certainly can appreciate the employee’s efforts in this instance. Thankfully nobody was injured as a result.”
