Man stabbed in robbery attempt

NANAIMO – One man arrested and another man treated for stab wounds following alleged robbery attempt at Castaway Motel.

One man is in custody after an incident on the weekend that sent another man to hospital with multiple stab wounds.

The stabbing happened at the Castaway Motel on Terminal Avenue at about 1:30 a.m. Sunday during an alleged robbery attempt.

Police said the culprit fled the scene where investigators found a knife and a 60-year-old man who had sustained multiple, but non-life-threatening stab wounds to his head and chest. The victim was taken to Nanaimo Regional General Hospital for treatment and released from care several hours later.

Mounties arrested the suspect Monday. Robert Pearce, 25, of Nanaimo, appeared in Nanaimo Provincial Court Tuesday and remains in custody on charges of robbery and aggravated assault.

Police said the culprit and victim are known to one another and this was an isolated incident.

RCMP Serious Crime Unit and Forensic Services investigators continuing the investigation.
