Man faces nine charges for allegedly setting fires in Nanaimo

NANAIMO – Charges have been laid against the man accused in a string of fires set Thursday in Nanaimo.

Martin Arthur Taylor, 54, has been charged with three counts of arson damaging property, three counts of uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm, one count of possessing a weapon for dangerous purpose and two counts of mischief $5,000 or under.

In the incident, a series of small fires were set, beginning in the Nicol Street area.

Taylor was arrested at Port Place Shopping Centre after 10 a.m. Thursday and appeared in court Friday.

His next appearance is set for Monday (April 27).
