One man is facing charges after a 52-year-old man was struck in the head with a baseball bat during an altercation Tuesday evening.
According to Nanaimo police, the incident happened at a home on Barclay Road in central Nanaimo shortly before 9 p.m. where RCMP members responded to a report of a disturbance at the residence.
Officers arrived to find the victim bleeding from a head injury. He was transported by ambulance to Nanaimo Regional General Hospital.
The victim’s injuries were not as serious as police first thought and, after receiving several stitches to his head, was released from hospital early Wednesday morning.
A 58-year-old man was arrested at the scene for assault causing bodily harm, held in custody overnight and released Wednesday morning on a promise to appear and at Nanaimo provincial court on Oct. 18.
Investigators were also granted judicial authorization to enter the home on Wednesday morning to seize various items for forensic evaluation, including the baseball believed to have been used in the assault.
