Man arrested second time for stealing poppy donations

NANAIMO – A 49-year-old man arrested last week for stealing poppy donations has been arrested again for the same offence.

A man who was arrested Friday after allegedly stealing two poppy donation cans from two different stores Nov. 1 was arrested again, according to RCMP.

He was originally released on a promise to appear in Nanaimo provincial court at a later date to face recommended charges of two counts of theft under $5,000.

Within 24 hours of his release, the same individual is alleged to have stolen more poppy donations, this time from the Brooks Landing Home Hardware store and form Pattie's Party Palace on Rutherford Rd.

The suspect is now in custody after turning himself in to the Nanaimo RCMP Tuesday.

Police said investigators would recommend the suspect remain in custody at a bail hearing scheduled in Nanaimo provincial court Tuesday.
