It was a dog day afternoon for some local folks at Nanaimo’s B.C. SPCA branch.

The organization held its Lock-In for Love fundraising event Friday at its Westwood Road location.

Greater Nanaimo Chamber of Commerce CEO Kim Smythe and others were ‘locked’ in kennels until they could raise enough money to secure their freedom.

Leon Davis, Nanaimo branch manager, said the event was on track to raise its $20,000 goal.

The money will go toward helping abused, neglected, injured and vulnerable animals.
