Lead testing in Nanaimo school district ends this week

NANAIMO – Results to be sent to B.C. Ministry of Education

Testing for lead in Nanaimo school district facility water is expected to conclude this week.

Nanaimo district retained Tetra Tech Environmental in November to conduct testing on district facilities built before 1990 and there is a March 10 deadline for a staff report with recommendations. Test results must be submitted to B.C. government by March 31 and the district said it will work with Island Health on mitigation if necessary.

“There’s nothing significant at this time other than to say we’re on track with the testings essentially complete and the reports are being developed and we’re on track for meeting the timelines and submitting them to the ministry,” said Pete Sabo, district director of planning and operations, at the Feb. 22 regular meeting.
