Reuse Rendezvous, a curbside city-wide swap meet to keep reusable items from going to the landfill, is making a return this weekend.

The annual event, to be held Aug. 13-14, will give Nanaimo residents a chance to put unwanted toys, sporting goods, furniture, books, bikes and other items out on the curb for others to take and hopefully give the items a new lease on life.

Participants should mark items for the taking with tags labelled ‘FREE’ and place them so they don’t block sidewalks and bike lanes. Any unclaimed items must be removed from the curb by Aug. 15.

Reuse Rendezvous participants cruising the streets for curbside finds they can’t pass up are asked to slow down, watch for children, park carefully and obey traffic signs and speed limits.

“Our annual city-wide swap meet is a great opportunity to declutter – or re-clutter – your homes and have fun seeking out treasures across our community,” said Nanaimo Mayor Leonard Krog in a press release. “Not to mention, you are contributing to a greener Nanaimo by extending the life of household items and diverting waste from the landfill.”
