Injured cyclist airlifted to Victoria hospital

NANAIMO - A cyclist is still in hospital after being discovered at the side of the road in Cedar.

An injured cyclist is still in hospital after being found unconscious at the side of the road in Cedar.

Nanaimo RCMP says it was alerted by B.C. Ambulance at 3:15 p.m. Friday afternoon about a female lying on the shoulder of Akenhead Road, near Tees Avenue, next to her bicycle, with no identification.

“It appeared for unknown reasons, she lost control of her bike and fell off it, onto the roadway. It is unknown if she collided with another motor vehicle or moving object as the bike had minimal damage. She was attended to by B.C. paramedics and later airlifted to Victoria General Hospital,” said Const. Gary O'Brien, Nanaimo RCMP spokesman, in a press release.

The police are seeking information on events leading up to the woman's injuries. Anyone with information is asked to call Nanaimo RCMP at 250-754-2345.
